Our firm specializes in the design of entire homes whether it is a new build or a full remodel. We absolutely love helping our clients to select each detail of their home – from the moldings to the floors, from the door knobs to the throw pillows – and details are our thing. We will work closely with your architect and builder to help create a cohesive plan that is completely “you”.

We also love a good old-fashioned decorating project in which the architecture is already in place and you’re simply looking to turn your house into a home. For those projects, our team is available to assist every step of your design process, from beginning to end.

Here is an overview of how the process works:

INITIAL CONTACT

Submit a project inquiry on our contact page. We’ll then set up a phone consultation to find out in more detail about your specific design space and needs, to introduce you to our company philosophy and schedule a paid consultation (refundable to those that become clients). At this face-to-face meeting, our Design Director will give you valuable design advice and share creative solutions on how our team would work on turning your vision into a reality. We’ll discuss your project and desired budget, the design process, our fees, and any other questions or concerns you may have. The purpose of our meeting is to mutually determine if we’d like to work together on the project.

PROJECT INITIATION

Once we have agreed to work together, our contract is signed and design deposit has been received, we’ll kick start by meeting with you to review blueprints and discuss what changes and additions you have been considering. We will also have a separate meeting with the architectural team and/or builder as well as our tradespeople to take measurements, discuss colors, materials and custom design ideas to ensure the functions of your home will fulfill your desired style and create the environment that best suits your lifestyle.

DESIGN CONCEPT & PRESENTATION

We create a design plan for your home. Based on a combination of what we have learned from you and our own creativity, we will present our design concept at the studio using photos, floor plans, fabric, paint, samples and other materials we recommend. At this point, the design is tweaked with your suggestions and subsequently approved by you into a final design plan.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT PHASE

The approved final design provides a basis for us to place furnishings and materials orders and schedule all work with relevant tradespeople. This is the messy part where the concept of your home beings to take shape and become a reality. This phase is less formally known as “The Waiting Period” in which the team at Lydia Uzzell Interior Design is working diligently behind the scenes to make sure all your goods are fabricated and arrive as planned, and is available for your builder to answer any questions and check in on your project site as needed.

FURNITURE INSTALLATION AND STYLING

When your space is ready and all your furnishings have arrived at the receiving warehouse, we oversee the installation of everything for you including our designer-approved accessories – a room isn’t completed until it’s been fully decorated and filled with meaningful pieces. You will be delighted when we reveal the final product to you.

IDENTIFYING AND RESOLVING DEFICIENCIES

Although we strive to consistently deliver pleasing results to our clients, in our line of work, we know to expect the unexpected and work tirelessly with our vendors and insurer to address occasional furniture damages and imperfections, leaving you to enjoy your new home while we smooth out the wrinkles. Once all identified deficiencies have been resolved, we will wrap up your project.
